CONCEPTUAL WORKS
These unbuilt works demonstrate my interest in community driven design at varying scales.
The Waterline
This project explores the intersection between natural and built environments. In this case, the built environment being a proposed community center in the lower ninth ward neighborhood in New Orleans, LA, and the natural environment being the Wetland landscape and the heavy rains that characterize much of Louisiana.
FOLD
Fold is a window shade for the historical row houses in Houston’s Third Ward. The window is southwest facing, and effectively provides full shade in the summer, and allows for full sun exposure in the winter. The design achieves these criteria by literally folding across the diagonal of the window to become a shelf underneath the window sill, when shade is not needed.
Deployable Parks
This project is an investigation in reusing retired infrastructure as a means to introduce activated public space in areas where this is lacking. It is an exploration into how design can advocate for social justice. Additionally it is an exercise in celebrating Houston’s blue-collar roots by preserving the city’s industrial infrastructure, without memorializing it. Thinking about how the preservation of memory can occur simultaneously to innovation and progress.
